Serani Poji – Octopus Daughter (Translation)

At the outskirts of town, there’s no more than a circus tent.
My body is the limpest in the world. Octopus daughter.

Bending from the back, in the space between my feet, I see your face.
I say “hello!” And reach my hand out to all the adults and children that are clapping.

My father is three people
The performance has ended, I kiss kiss kiss them.
I’m surrounded by such wonderful dads, I’m always so happy.

My triumphant muscle father on the trapeze.
A lion bites at the wound of my prideful chest-haired father.
The sorrowful gestures and speech of my clown father.
We eat potatoes and meat pie while having fun conversations.

At the outskirts of town, there’s no more than a circus tent.
My body is the limpest in the world. Octopus daughter.

Bending from the back, in the space between my feet, I see your face.
I say “hello!” And reach my hand out to all the adults and children that are clapping.

My mother is three people
The performance has ended, I kiss kiss kiss them.
I’m surrounded by such wonderful moms, I’m always so happy.

My mother that unicycles on a burning tightrope
My cool mother that tames all the elephants with a whip and rides them.
My clown father with the big butt kicks out my happy mother.
We drink coffee and lemonade while having fun conversations.

The boy who came to see my mom and dad’s circus
was together with three people
My mom and dad had many customers
I didn’t resemble any of them…I thought

The sparkling western clothes, the sparkling make-up
My family is sparkling
More than any other family

At the outskirts of town, there’s no more than a circus tent.
My body is the limpest in the world. Octopus daughter.

Bending from the back, in the space between my feet, I see your face.
I say “hello!” And reach my hand out to all the adults and children that are clapping.
